Yucca and Agave : FAQ and Care Information

What is an Agavoideae?

Including iconic Joshua Trees and massive Blue Agave Americana, the agavoideae of plants makes a distinct group of plants that are important to our regional floras, and make incredible statements in the landscape. Many plants in this group give us the raw ingredients for tequila, mescal, sotol and other distilled beverages. Others are used for fiber or materials for basket making. The majority of plants in this group are coveted plants for horticulture.

Watering Information

Water deeply every 7-10 days during the hot summer months and once a month during winter dormancy. Water by placing a hose several feet from the base of the plant and giving it a long, slow drink. Do not allow soil to become oversaturated, and always make sure the ground dries out between watering. Spraying plants may help keep them green during periods of intense drought.
